South China Sea disputes heating up

posted Jun 12, 2011 14:00:46 by gabe
In light of Vietnamese oil exploration vessels being rammed and/or having cables entangled and cut by Chinese vessels in recent days, we would like to hear readers' thoughts on the issue. Do you think the Chinese boats' actions were officially sanctioned? If so, at what level? How do you think the risk for real armed confrontation in the South China Sea is evolving as a result of the recent encounters between Chinese and Vietnamese vessels, including in areas more than 1,000 km south of Hainan Island?
